The Confucius Institute Headquarter and the National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway) signed an agreement on establishing the Confucius Institute of Chinese and Regenerative Medicine at NUI Galway on February 27th. Meanwhile, NUI Galway signed an implementation agreement with its Chinese partner, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM), for the establishment of?the Confucius Institute.

The Confucius Institute of Chinese and Regenerative Medicine at NUI Galway is the third Confucius Institute in Ireland. While promoting Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture, it will proactively advance the combination of Chinese and Western medical research and teaching, achieving characteristic development.

Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister with Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, and Níall Mc Nelis, Mayor of Galway City attended the signing ceremony.

Timothy O'Brien, Dean of the College of Medicine at NUI Galway and Irish Director of the Confucius Institute expressed his faith in the prospect of this collaboration, saying that regenerative medicine is a frontier hotspot of modern medicine while traditional Chinese medicine has its special characteristics in dealing with various puzzling cases, so the combination of the two could breed new potentials. NUI Galway and NJUCM will take the establishment of the Confucius Institute as an opportunity to deepen academic exchanges and scientific research collaboration for complementary advantages.
